Alaska's legislature paid $1.2 million to ask the voters for a mandate to put an ammendment
on the 2008 ballot that would require the removal of benefits being paid for same-sex partbners of government employees.
They planned to use support for discrimination to pass HJR9, which would further redefine marriage to remove "all rights"
associated with marriage from any unmarried couple.
The narrow victory for intolerance was called "Resoundingly not definitive" by State Senator Kim
Elton. Combining District 3 and District 4, Juneau's NO votes on this question give our city a
62% tolerance quotient. Juneau NOW will continue to advocate for equality by educating the public on the difference between
Christian values and fundamentalist values.

no peace at home until there is peace everywhere.
